Terms and conditions

These terms are the agreement between you and Lordubs Labs (Pty) Ltd for using FridgeSpin. They're written to be readable. Section 6, on AI-generated meal ideas, is the one to read if you read nothing else.

1. About these terms

By downloading or using FridgeSpin you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy, which explains how we handle your personal information. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. Google Play's own terms also apply to downloading the app and to purchases.

2. Who can use FridgeSpin

FridgeSpin is only for people aged 18 and over. You must be 18 or older to use it, and it isn't meant for anyone under 18.

3. Your account

The app creates an anonymous account for you automatically. If you create an account with an email address or Google sign-in, keep your login details safe; you're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed it. An anonymous account lives only on your phone: if you uninstall the app or clear its data without creating an account, it can't be recovered.

4. Plans, subscriptions and payment

• Free plan: free to use, with ads and daily limits.
• Paid plans (currently No Ads, Pro and Max) are subscriptions sold through Google Play. The features, limits and price of each plan are shown in the app and on Google Play before you buy. Prices are in rand and include VAT where it applies.
• Billing and renewal: Google Play charges you. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) until you cancel.
• Cancelling: cancel any time in Google Play (Play Store → profile icon → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions). You keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel a subscription.
• Refunds: refunds go through Google Play under Google Play's refund policies. This doesn't affect any right to a refund you have under South African law (section 12).
• Price changes: if we change the price of a plan you subscribe to, Google Play will tell you before it applies, and you can cancel before then.

5. Limits and fair use

Every plan has limits on how many scans and meal ideas you can use per day and/or per month. Each plan's limits are shown in the app (Settings → Plan). The Max plan's limits are 100 scans and 200 meal ideas a day, and 1,000 scans and 2,000 meal ideas a month. Each request for meal ideas counts as one, however many ideas it returns. If you reach a limit, the feature pauses until the limit resets or you change plans.

We may change plan limits. If a change makes your current plan materially worse, we'll tell you in advance, and you can cancel.

To protect the service, we may also limit requests from one network, or temporarily pause AI features if our providers have an outage or costs spike unexpectedly.

6. AI-generated content and food safety

FridgeSpin uses artificial intelligence to recognise items in photos and to write meal ideas. AI makes mistakes. In particular:

• Scans can miss items, misread them or get quantities wrong. Check your pantry list.
• Meal ideas are automatically generated suggestions, not tested recipes. They may be incomplete or wrong, or contain ingredients, quantities, steps, times or temperatures that are unsuitable or unsafe.
• Allergies and diets: FridgeSpin doesn't know about your allergies, intolerances, medical conditions or dietary needs, and can't guarantee that a meal is free of any ingredient. If you or anyone you're cooking for has an allergy, check every ingredient and product label yourself.
• Food safety is your responsibility: check that food is fresh and within its use-by date, store and handle it safely, and cook meat, poultry, fish and eggs thoroughly. When in doubt, throw it out.
• FridgeSpin doesn't give medical, nutritional or dietary advice. Speak to a qualified professional about your diet.

You use meal ideas at your own risk, and use your own judgement when cooking and eating.

7. Acceptable use

Please don't:

• use FridgeSpin for anything unlawful, or to harm anyone;
• upload photos of people, documents with other people's personal information, or anything illegal or offensive;
• get around plan limits, or use bots, scripts, scraping or other automated access;
• copy, resell, reverse engineer or try to extract the app's source code, our server or the AI services behind it, except where the law allows;
• interfere with the app's security or other users' use of it.

If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account. Where it's reasonable we'll tell you first and give you a chance to explain.

8. Ads

The free plan shows ads provided by Google AdMob. Advertisers are responsible for their ads and for anything you buy from them. Paid plans remove ads.

9. Your content and our app

You keep ownership of the photos you take and the lists you create. You give us permission to process them only as needed to run FridgeSpin for you, as described in the privacy policy. You may use the meal ideas the app gives you for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.

The app, its design, the FridgeSpin name and logo, and our software belong to Lordubs Labs or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on your devices under these terms.

10. Availability and changes to the app

We work to keep FridgeSpin running, but we can't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. The app depends on services from other companies (such as Google, Groq, Supabase and Cloudflare) that we don't control. We may change, add or remove features. If we ever shut FridgeSpin down, we'll give reasonable notice. Paid subscriptions will stop renewing, and you can ask for a pro-rata refund of any period you've paid for but can't use.

11. Our responsibility to you

As far as the law allows:

• FridgeSpin is provided "as is". We don't guarantee that scans or meal ideas are accurate, complete or suitable for you.
• We aren't responsible for loss or harm that comes from relying on AI-generated content in breach of section 6, from food you prepare or eat, or from things outside our reasonable control.
• We aren't responsible for indirect or consequential loss, such as loss of profit or data.
• Our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for FridgeSpin in the 12 months before the claim arose, or R10 if you've paid nothing.

Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that the law doesn't allow us to limit, including for gross negligence, fraud, or under section 61 of the Consumer Protection Act.

12. Your consumer rights

If you use FridgeSpin as a consumer, you have rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 that these terms don't take away. Where anything in these terms conflicts with those rights, your rights win.

13. Ending this agreement

You can stop using FridgeSpin at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it. Sections 6, 9, 11, 12 and 14 survive the end of this agreement.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. If something goes wrong, please contact us first. Most problems can be sorted out quickly by email. If we can't resolve it, either of us may take the dispute to a South African court with jurisdiction, and you may also approach the National Consumer Commission or a consumer court.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using FridgeSpin after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
